We change the battery in the multimeter with our own hands

replacing the battery in the multimeter

One day you turn the mode switch of the multimeter, the indicator of the device flashes and immediately turns off. Most likely, your device is in good working order, the battery is simply discharged and it's time to change it. In this note, we are considering a multimeter powered by a 9V "crown" battery, which is contained inside the instrument case. This step-by-step guide will work with most modern low-cost multimeters, but just in case, look at the back of the meter before purchasing a battery. Your meter may be powered by AA batteries and has a snap-on battery compartment. In this case, replacing the batteries is trivial and you do not need this instruction.

Battery selection

selection of a 9V

There are two types of 9V batteries available on the market today

  • Saline batteries are labeled 6F22 and are cheaper but have a shorter life. Most manufacturers of multimeters install them in new instruments.
  • Batteries with alkaline batteries (super alkaline) are labeled 6LR61, last much longer and are therefore more expensive. The brand does not really matter, the more eminent will simply ask for more money.

Battery replacement

Important! Do not forget to switch off the device before starting work.

multimeter with the cover removed

To replace the battery, the device case will have to be disassembled. To do this, remove the protective cover from the multimeter, if any, and, in our case, unscrew the two small screws holding the halves of the case together and carefully remove the back cover. Inside we see the device board and the battery in a separate compartment.

We take out the old battery, disconnect the block, connect the new battery, which we carefully put back into the compartment intended for it. Do not be afraid to mix up the polarity, the shape of the terminals on the block and the battery will not allow you to do this.

Carefully close the back cover, screw in the screws, put on the cover.

To check, turn on the device and, if everything is done correctly, we see a working indicator - the multimeter is ready for work. And lastly, if your device does not have an auto-off function, do not forget to turn it off, otherwise the battery will be discharged very quickly again.
